I enjoy keeping the integrity of historical structures solid for the next generation. I enjoy working with natural materials and go to great lengths to restore using the highest quality products and materials I can find.

Part of my enjoyment is problem solving and the other is working on structures that true artists have created many years ago. It's like touching gold to me. I feel my loyalty and respect is to the structure and the original builders more than the current owners.

I enjoy the continued learning curve of preservation. I'm active in, and support, the Maryland Preservation Society. I am familiar with coordinating projects through the Maryland Historical Trust.

I enjoy diagnosing why the decay exists and restoring back to original using a combination of old and new materials for the purpose of not just repairing but halting the problem for the next generation. Sometimes the problem is obvious from the beginning and sometimes reveals itself through the demolition process.

I am comfortable using lime/sand mortars as well as our common Portland based mortars. Familiar with stone, brick, block, stucco and concrete. I am experienced with many projects throughout. An example would be window restoration ( re glazing correctly with the right products and replacing sash cords ), molding replication, slate roof repair, painting and plaster repairs. Because we don't use paint from long ago it is typical for me to have the project manager from Sherwin Williams come to the job site and recommend the step by step process using the latest painting products to achieve the longest lasting appearance and protection for the surface painted.

Winter work: I enjoy coming in out of the cold and accepting projects requiring interior repair and painting.

I have many references, both residential and commercial, these clients would be happy to speak with you. I can usually match your project with one that was similar.

I have been a Mason for over 30 years and restoration of my ca. 1790 mansion over 15 years.

I also have a medical background which actually helps me with the scientific aspect of working with these old materials and meshing them with the new. I have spent over 12 years doing a multitude of projects at Ladew Topiary Gardens in Monkton and can direct you to speak with someone there. It is at Ladew Gardens where I was awarded citations from the State and local government for historical preservation of the fountain in the Berry Garden.

I have a network of tradesmen I can call on if required to accomplish any job at hand. As I come across other craftsman that have the same vision and enthusiasm I am always happy to refer them to customers.
